The Bowersocks
Thank you for exploring S & S Acres. This is our story!
A little about us…
Our family is from a small town in Northwest Ohio. What started as a hobby slowly turned into something much larger. My husband and I meet while in college and got married in 2005. We now are a family of 5, and have have two very lazy English bulldogs. Both my husband and I work in healthcare, but outside of work our family loves sports and traveling!
When we moved home for job opportunities, we made the decision to buy some land for our family to farm. While my husband grew up on a farm with crops and animals, this was an easy and somewhat comfortable decision. It allowed us to invest in our future retirement and provide a place for our children to care for their 4H market hogs.
How did the farm come about? Most people believe the S & S comes from our names or family initials.
However, the S & S stands for -Stitches and Staples-. As said before, what started out as a hobby farm has turned into a small business for us. The farm started with tillable land, but quickly evolved into animals as well. We began with a small herd of bison and then we slowly added highland cattle, elk, donkeys, Kunekune pigs, and Watusi cattle.
As a busy family the farm and animals provide us with a nice break from the monotonous
life we know.
Our current bison breeding bull in the herd is Thor. He came to us from North Carolina. If you looked through the page you'll notice he doesn't look like a bison you would see everyday! Along with Thor, our other bull, Snowflake, is blonde!
Within the small Scottish highland herd we have one white bull named Zues and several unique colored cows. So, the calf birthing season always surprises us!
We have two breeding bulls for our elk herd. Inferno and Hurricane and several cows. All of our animals are pasture raised.
What we wish for the future...
Our desire is to provide healthy meat products and breeding animals. As we get closer to
retiring from our jobs the goal for the future is for our “hobby” to turn into what we do full time.
This will also provide a secure life for the kids and grandkids yet to come!
The Help!
We can't take all the credit!
The farm wouldn't run smooth if it weren't for our help!
